Aya was the sixth president of the Israel Statistical Association. She paved the way for the application of Statistics in Israel and beyond. Her work on mediation effect in social science is only one such example. I would like however to contribute a few words on Aya as a personality with significant influence and impact on science and scientists, and colleagues. Statistics is a weird discipline. Its mathematical foundations become impactful only with statistical thinking and reasoning. Aya was a role model in that. Her unique teaching ability provided a glimpse at what outstanding statisticians do. She was uniquely appreciated by the people she worked with, both statisticians and non statisticians. Her insightful comments always added light and insights. Her encouragements and concern for others stood out as coming from a unique human being.
Her passing away came as a shock. It will take time to integrate the work and contributions of Aya Cohen to Statistics.
She will be missed by many people.
